At Stark Industries, Tony was at a board meeting, but ignores the board executives and makes a shield device for Captain America. As the board directors, Pepper approaches Tony and tells him that he spends too much time as Iron Man and on the Avengers. Tony disagrees with that statement, but as he is explaining, he gets a message from Captain America that James and Black Panther are ready to move the armory to the Avengers mansion. Pepper tells him that she was right, and Tony explains that he does it to protect Stark Industries and not let it hurt anyone.

Tony wonders why she is here, and Maria invites the Avengers to S.H.I.E.L.D. In the Iron Man armory, James tells Captain America and Black Panther that Tony was working on the Mark IX armor, and Captain America notices that there is another armor. James tells them that it is his armor "War Machine" and only uses it to protect Tony. In the office Tony disregards the offer as he thinks that it's pointless. Maria wants the Avengers to register so that other would follow like the X-Men and Spider-Man. Maria threatens that S.H.I.E.L.D. will come after the Avengers if they mess up.

In the computer room, the downloading is completed and Supreme Scientist is going to leave the building along with the hostage. In the armory, Technovore arrives and ambushes War Machine while getting through the wall in to the arc reactor. As Technovore feeds on War Machine, Iron Man arrives in the Mark IX armor.
