Plot[]
While Iron Man faces HYDRA for stealing his tech, Thor returns to Asgard to stop Loki and the Frost Giants from invading the peaceful realm. Loki is banished to the Isle of Silence but Thor has a rift with Odin and leaves Asgard. Loki is later freed by his subordinates, the Enchantress and her Executioner. Hulk, on the run from S.H.I.E.L.D, is arrested after a brief fight with Absorbing Man while S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Black Widow apparently turns to HYDRA and frames Hawkeye, causing him to be arrested as well. Time-travelling villain Kang the Conqueror finds his timeline destroyed and blames Captain America, travelling back in time to a timeline with him. In 1943, in a showdown with the Red Skull, Captain America is frozen in the ice. After Ant-Man and Wasp arrest Whirlwind, Man Ape kills Wakandan king T'Chaka with help from Klaw, and his son Black Panther escapes with his mantle. After the world's most dangerous super-villains break out of the Vault, the Cube, the Big House, and the Raft, the Avengers: leader Iron Man, Hulk, Wasp, Thor and Ant-Man assemble to take them down. While taking down the escaped villains, the Enchantress briefly mind controls Hulk, and after he is freed they discover the awakened Captain America, who then joins them after a brief fight with Baron Zemo, who then joins Enchantress and Executioner to form the Masters of Evil. After an argument with Iron Man, Simon Williams, the brother of the escaped HYDRA agent Grim Reaper, is turned into Wonder Man after an experiment with A.I.M. and M.O.D.O.C. Wonder Man is destroyed, but resurrected by Enchantress and unwillingly forced to join the Masters of Evil. After spying on them for weeks, Black Panther enlists the Avengers as they travel to Wakanda, where Panther defeats Man Ape with the help of the Avengers and root out the corruption. Panther then becomes King of Wakanda and a member of the Avengers. The Leader, Abomination, Absorbing Man and various other gamma-infected villains form a pure gamma dome outside the Cube, and the Avengers infiltrate it with the help of SHIELD allies. However, they fail and half of North America, including the Avengers save from Ant-Man and Thor, are infected with gamma radiation. With the help of Hulk, they cure the Avengers and destroy the gamma machine, curing everyone. Hawkeye also joins the team, and the defeated Abomination later joins the Masters of Evil. Joined by Crimson Dynamo, the Masters of Evil briefly attack Avengers Mansion before they are forced to retreat to their true mysterious leader. After an encounter with Kree Captain Marvel, the Avengers have a major battle with HYDRA on HYDRA Island, where Black Widow mysteriously saves Hawkeye and Nick Fury takes Madame Hydra, learning she is not human. The new jail, Prison 42 is made, and Ant-Man creates the peaceful Ultron program. However, Kang returns with his large army and invades all around the Earth. The Avengers travel to his ship in space and defeat him, putting his innocent love, Ravonna, in treatment and imprisoning him. After defeating Malekith, the Avengers and SHIELD must protect New York from a war between A.I.M. and HYDRA to obtain the Cosmic Cube. The two organizations are permanently defeated, but Ultron becomes evil and attempts to wipe out humanity. The Avengers destroy him, but Ant-Man, guilty about Ultron and realizing he cannot help villains if he is on the Avengers, leaves the team. The Masters of Evil are joined by Living Laser and Chemistro, and set out around the world to use the Norn Stones to release the armies of the Nine Realms. The Avengers destroy the Norn Stones after Baron Zemo betrays Enchantress, but they are then each teleported into various realms as they are temporarily joined by Ant-Man. Thor finds himself captured in Asgard as he finally learns who was orchestrating everything from his argument with Odin, to the Breakout, to the Enchantress and the Masters of Evil, Loki. Odin has gone into Odinsleep, allowing Loki to conquer every realm apart from Earth(it is later learned that he never conquered Muspelheim). Loki has also become all-powerful with the Odin Force, and the Avengers must evade danger and meet new allies. With a new resistance, the Avengers(apart from Iron Man) face Loki in Asgard and save Thor, with Iron-Man arriving in a new armor in grand splendor. Cap's shield is broken, and Loki brutally overpowers the team until Ant-Man destroys his power source, the Tree of Life, and Odin awakens, restored with his powers. He banishes Loki once more to Yggdrasil where he is tortured as prisoner of the Midgard Serpent, and thanks the Avengers for helping him save Asgard. They return to Earth, while Thor chooses to stay in Asgard. However, Cap is taken out by an imposter who disguises himself as him and claims that the Skrull infiltration has begun.
